Press Release Icon

Today, GOJO, the global leader in hand hygiene and healthy skin, announced the publication of its Annual Sustainability Report. The new report emphasizes the company’s view of sustainability as an opportunity to create value and includes examples illustrating its success in creating social, environmental and economic value for its business and its stakeholders. The GOJO Purpose – Saving Lives and Making Life Better through Well-Being Solutions – drives the organization’s commitment to incorporating sustainability into every aspect, including its policies, products and daily ways of working. The report’s theme, What Matters Most, highlights the GOJO focus on contributing to better health outcomes for humanity and the world.

The report shows how the Purpose-driven company is committed to going beyond reducing environmental impacts to having a positive impact through product innovation, partnerships with non-profit organizations, and daily work practices. The drive to make life better has been part of the GOJO story since its founding in 1946, and the company works diligently to continue this legacy. GOJO incorporates sustainability into everything it does through GOJO Sustainable Ways of Working (SWOWSM). SWOW describes the GOJO approach to changing the way it thinks, works and embeds sustainability into everything it does.

“We see sustainability as everyone’s job at GOJO – from how we work to what we make,” said Marcella Kanfer Rolnick, Vice Chair, GOJO.  “We’ve seen that when we put the GOJO Purpose at the center of all we do and ask our team members to generate Sustainable Value, anything is possible.”

GOJO team members are advancing social, environmental and economic sustainability results. The report cites the following examples:

  • Social –GOJO positively impacts world health and enhances the quality of people’s lives by helping reduce risks to health and well-being.  GOJO has a goal of bringing well-being to one billion people every day through hand hygiene and skin care. In 2013, GOJO delivered 35 percent more hand hygiene solutions to people in the US and throughout the world than when it started to measure in 2010.  GOJO provides solutions to hospitals to help decrease healthcare-associated infections through hand hygiene products and technology, such as electronic monitoring hand hygiene systems.  In rural Nigeria where access to basic hygiene is a challenge, GOJO collaborates with the non-profit organization, SURE-P, to provide PURELL® Hand Sanitizer to expectant mothers.

  • Environmental – GOJO exceeded its 2015 sustainability goals, set in 2010, two years early.  This resulted in the reduction of water usage by 40 percent, reduction in solid waste generated by 36 percent and reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 46 percent.

  • Economic – GOJO achieved an 83 percent increase in sales from sustainably certified products (as a percentage of the sales revenue mix). The company worked with many collaborative partners to create sustainable value through new practices, products and solutions to create economic value for customers, distributors, vendors, suppliers and other stakeholders through streamlined packaging and shipping practices.

“We are accelerating our sustainability efforts,” said Nicole Koharik, Global Sustainability Marketing Director at GOJO.  “We’re trying to change the mindset … it is not just about reducing, it is about creating value for our employees, customers, suppliers, non-profit collaborators and everyone our business touches.”
